Driver's Safety Course
Eligibility
You are eligible to request a Driver’s Safety Course if:
- You have not completed a Driver’s Safety Course within the last twelve months. (The date of your last course must be twelve months prior to the date of your current violation.)
- You are not currently taking a Driver’s Safety Course for another citation.
- Do not hold a Commercial Driver’s license.
- You were not driving twenty-five mphs or more over the speed limit.
- You were not cited while driving in a construction zone with workers present.
- Violations NOT eligible for a Driver Safety Course:
- Speeding twenty-five mphs or more over the posted speed limit.
- Speeding in a construction zone with workers present.
- Reckless Driving
- A serious traffic violation under Chapter 522, Transportation Code, which applies to drivers with a Commercial Driver’s License
Requirements
- You must have a valid Texas Driver’s License.
- You must provide Valid Liability Insurance in your name.
- You must obtain a current copy of your Driving Record from the Texas Department of Public Safety. Application for Driving Record is below.
- You will have ninety days to complete a State Approved Driver’s Safety Course and return the certificate of completion to the Municipal Court.
If you fail to complete/return the proper documentation, you will be required to appear before the Municipal Court Judge to show cause why you failed to show proof of completion. This may result in a conviction to your driving record.
