Deferred Disposition
Requirements
  1. Possess a valid Driver’s License
  2. By Mail: You must complete/submit the Deferred Disposition Request Form, below, to the court before your Initial Appearance date.
  3. By Mail, phone or in person: You must contact the court to confirm the amount due including the special expense fee.
  4. In person: You must appear prior to your Initial Appearance date to complete the proper paperwork with the clerk.
  5. If you are under the age of twenty-five, you will be required to complete a Defensive Driving course as a requirement of your deferred.
  6. Enter a plea of guilty or no contest.
  7. Waive your right to a trial by judge/jury.
  8. You will be on a thirty day deferred period. As long as no further citations are received in the City of Roanoke, and your fees are paid, the citation will be dismissed and not appear on your driving record.

You are NOT Eligible if you:
  • Hold a CDL license,
  • Speed in a construction zone with workers present, or 
  • Speed twenty-five mphs or more over the posted speed limit.

If you meet the above requirements, you may print out the Deferred Disposition Request Form (below), complete the entire form, and contact the court to confirm the total amount of cost due for Deferred Disposition.

If you fail to comply with any of the terms and conditions ordered by the judge, you will be subpoenaed to appear before the judge at a Show Cause hearing to discuss further proceedings. Failing to comply may result in your citation being reported to your driving record as a conviction.
